Our History

Grassroots launched in June 2019 with an English Language Enrichment Program for students aged seven to fifteen, which embodies all the principles outlined above. The program focuses on enhancing reading, writing speaking, and listening skills for children and young adults. We conduct an After School Program which runs from January to May and then from August to December. Each student must attend a minimum of eight classes per month and the student’s school syllabus and its requirements are taken into account when individual curricula are designed. We also conduct short courses during the summer and winter holidays which focus on teaching and training students to excel at one particular area of English Language Enrichment, i.e. creative writing, reading comprehension, structured writing, etc. Our classes are mixed age and ability and each student works at their own pace celebrating their academic strengths while simultaneously striving to improve areas of weaknesses. Grassroots is an inclusive classroom and we welcome students who have diverse learning needs.
In 2020 GrassrootsPk expanded its focus to include Educator Empowerment programs. There have been customized online trainings for teachers of Habib Public School and Bay View Academy. We have also conducted online trainings for teachers through our online platforms. Topics for teacher trainings are diverse and range from the Basics of Teaching, Introduction to Social and Emotional Learning, Bullying, Curriculum Development, and Introduction to Critical Thinking.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

In 2022 GrassrootsPk launched a WhatsApp learning community named “Teachers Support Teachers”. This group provides information about job opportunities, and teaching tips and assists teachers with their professional concerns

At Grassroots we believe that students learn best when they are having fun. Therefore, our pedagogy is strongly centered on embedding games and other experiential activities in the curriculum which enhances student enjoyment and therefore motivation. We believe an enthusiastic student will commit themselves more to the demands of the curriculum and therefore learn better.

A latent function of these interactive learning activities is to boost the emotional and mental well-being of our students. We recognize that children and young people face their share of stress and adversities. Keeping this in mind, we believe that methods to boost self-esteem, confidence, and inter and intra-personal skills can and should be taught to students at a young age. The aim is to fortify these abilities in children and young people to embed them with the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills they need to be resilient members of society.
